Peabody went well!

Last week's show in Peabody went quite well!!! It certainly helped that Kenji, from Time-Bomb records in Japan was there, and bought a happy pile off of me...I THOUGHT I recognized him (he used to come to Vinyl Ink Records in Silver Spring, MD when I used to work there), and yup, it was Kenji!!!  Since it was the first show in Peabody, there wasn't a great turnout, but the folks who came bought, so no complaints...Kudos up to my Aunt & Uncle too, who were AWESOME hosts!!!

Been BANGING on the website!!!

Since I'll be pushing the website pretty hard during the record shows (yup, even including business cards like the one above!) I wanted to do some serious updating to my QuispQuake site.  So, this weekend, I worked and played HARD, and first did some minor visual updates, but more importantly, uploaded my first audio mix show in the last 18 months!!!  Here's the (I think!) pretty eclectic playlist:
01 Luddites-Altered States
02 Eno w/the Winkies-Baby's On Fire
03 Gerry Hologram-Gerry & the Holograms
04 Novak-Oh Farrah
05 Wooden Shjips-Motorbike
06 Sleep-The Druid
07 They Never Sleep-Just For You
08 Kim Fowley-I'm Bad
09 Brogues-Don't Shoot Me Down
10 Chesterfield Kings-Up & Down
11 King Khan-Land of the Freak
12 Shocking Blue-Love Buzz
13 Paul McCartney-Light From Your Lighthouse
14 Churchills-Straight People
15 Bobb Trimble-Glass Menagerie Fantasies
16 Marissa Nadler-Longer
17 Six Organs of Admittance-Nightly Trembling Creation Aspect Fire
18 Huun Huur Tu-Sygyt

I also uploaded a coupla new items to the sharity section, a Gershon Kingsley 45, and the INCREDIBLY WEIRD album Flight F-I-N-A-L.  Go to the website at http://www.quispquake.info/, and check it all out!!!

THREE (Count 'em) THREE Record shows coming up soon!!

Lots of excitement...I've got three record shows coming up in the next two months...First, is next weekend (the 7th of March) in Peabody Massachusettts.  Get the info HERE.  Next, on March 21st, I'll be going HERE to the Woburn Mass show.  I did one of these in December and did okay, but not gangbusters...I'm chalking the slower sales up to the fact that it was two weeks before Christmas, and I don't think people had a lot of extra money.

Finally, my personal favorite show is taking place May 9th up here in Maine (in Portland). The Enterprise Records vinyl show...more info HERE.  I've been doing these for awhile, and truly enjoy it.  Lots of cool shoppers, the dealers are fun (last show we were between Bob from Enterprise, and Patrick from Looney Tunes in Cambridge, and had a spectacular show).  I'm really looking forward to all three, but ESPECIALLY this one...

I think I'm officially ready for the shows...I've spent the last few weeks cleaning records, and organizing everything...The stock looks interesting and good!!!  So, come on down...even if you don't buy anything from me (although you SHOULD!!!  Just kidding...), there's always lots of dealers and someone will have what you're looking for!!!

Record show as Art Statement???

PERHAPS, I am getting a bit too obsessed over the record show thing.  For the past couple of weeks, I've been cleaning, labelling, and organizing HUNDREDS of records that I've gotten over the past few months to sell at the record shows.  Now that the 'getting the records ready' step is done, I'm finding a BUNCH of new things to do in preparation for the shows, such as getting new dividers and creating custom stickers, business cards, and I think I'll even be creating 'art' for the front of the record boxes.  When I did the record show thang a few years ago, I tried to add a certain 'presentation' to my shows, and I find myself wanting/needing to do that again.  Keeps me off the streets I guess :)

I'm also working hard to beat my website http://www.quispquake.info/ into shape.  This blog is kind of an 'offshoot' of the regular site.  I just posted a few 45's that I have ripped recently, and plan on posting lots more rips over the next couple of months.  I've also talked to a couple of friends, and hope to have some cool audio mix shows for your downloading pleasure.

The reason I want the site & blog to be decent, is that I've decided to really push it with the record shows...I'll have the website on all my price stickers, and would love to get a community of vinyl record hounds talking back & forth.  We'll see :)

Getting ready for Peabody Mass Record Show

Ya know, I don't always realize how much vinyl I buy.  I am constantly at the thrift stores (my job requires a LOT of driving, and mapping out the Goodwills on the routes is definitely a plus!), and 'bottom-feeding' on Ebay (which hasn't been great lately...but occasionally I hit on something good).  But now that I'm getting ready for the show on March 7th (three short weeks!), I'm realizing that I've got PILES of records laying around that need to be processed (cleaned, condition checked, value verified, labelled, and bagged).  So, that's what I've been doing most evenings & weekends recently (lots of spare time in February in Maine).  The sheer amount of 45's I've picked up is for sale is scary...I've easily gotten a few hundred this winter (hit a good flea market last week where I really cleaned up)

It's a fun hobby...listening to records, while preparing them for a show...a vinyl junkie's dream!  I'm really amazed at how enjoyable this winter has been, as instead of freaking out on the cold & snow, I simply pull up a box of records to prepare.  I'm sure I'll be posting the exact opposite when Spring gets here, but that's still a month or two off...

Put up a buncha stuff on Ebay a couple of days ago...

During my 'hunt' last week, I came on a GREAT collection of 45 records...a bunch of rare Garage & 'Northern Soul' records...I added 70 to my record show stock, and I also posted 11 of them here:

Check 'em out if you're interested...I'm going to be running a lot of auctions in conjunction with the record shows over the next couple of months...

Welcome!!!

I have decided to do a major over-hauling of my site http://www.quispquake.info/.  Originally, QuispQuake was just created to be a vanity site, where I could post vacation pictures and all, (and there will still be a 'personal' area where I'll keep that kinda thing) but I have had a major itch to turn the site into a music & vinyl record collecting site.

I have always been a major music hound, and for years worked in indy record stores & radio stations.  And although music is not now how I make my living (computers), I still have a real love for it, and a love for wheeling and dealing in vinyl records.  So, since I am ALWAYS hunting for records (and I find a lot that may not be my personal cup of tea, but I know is a nice piece), a year or so ago, I made the decision to start doing vinyl record shows up here in Maine.  It's really taken off, and my little hobby is now going pretty crazy...(I've already got two shows schedule by May!).

What excites me about record dealing & collecting?  Finding that incredibly rare piece of course, but even more so, meeting fellow music nuts and talking about our mutual music passion.  So, when figuring what to do with http://www.quispquake.info/, I decided to make it a place for music 'fans' (with myself being a HUGE fan!) to share and talk about music...two things I LOVE to do.  For the talking, I figured start easy with this blog sort of integrated with the site where people can leave comments and suggestions, and if discussion takes off like I hope, perhaps I'll integrate a forum in the future.

As for the sharing, I have two ideas.  First, I like to record digitally much of the odd and rare vinyl I get, so I'll be posting the music files for your downloading pleasure.  Sharing music (or 'sharity') is a nice way for folks to hear limited run or rare music (spreading the wealth).  I have a few odd pieces up, so go to http://www.quispquake.info/, and click on the "Download Audio" option on the toolbar, and it will bring you to the sharity page.  I plan on expanding this pretty quickly.

The other idea, is to have friends post mix shows on the site (once again for your downloading pleasure).  I have friends with music tastes all over the place, and hope to have QuispQuake as a central repository for many music shows in the future.  I have done many shows in the past, and will start off by linking to some of my better ones, but I hope to have new ones up soon by myself and friends.

Thanks for checking out the blog!  Hopefully this will work out to be something cool that people like!!!
